Abstract
476,444. Vehicle wheels. McHARDY, D. N. June 16,1936, No. 16719. [Class 144 (i)] A tractor wheel is fitted with strakes 14 formed on, or carried by, arms 1 which are detachably connected to a permanent fitting, such as the ring 5, at the side of the wheel. In the construction shown, ring 5, which is secured to the wheel-rim 3 by claw-bolts 6, is fitted with spaced plates 4 having recessed ends to receive the arms 1. The inner ends of the latter are formed with taper slots 9 co-operating with pins 10 on a disc 2 which is partially rotatable on the spindle 11 by means of a handle 12. The disc 2 is locked by a nut having a handle 13. In modifications (not shown), the strakes may be fitted in a socketed member secured by, or formed with, a central wheel-fastening nut; or, they may be secured in slotted brackets on the wheel-rim by means of taper cotters.
