639,627. Variable leverage brakes. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET BROMSREGULATOR. Jan. 14, 1948, No. 1182. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1947. [Class 103 (i)] A brake mechanism of the type having a leverage that is variable according to the load on a vehicle by adjustment of a fulcrum 2 movable along a guide 4 as described in Specifications 565,517, 565,814, 578,174, and 582,437, is characterized in that to make the fulcrum 2 move easily along its guide 4, its weight is supported by the end'of the fulcrum adjusting arm 5 instead of by the guide. The suspension of the fulcrum 2 is by means of a bolt 6, having a head at its'lower end and passing through a hole coinciding approximately with the vertical axis through the centre of gravity of the fulcrum 2, the top end of the bolt 6 being secured to a horizontal fork-shaped bolt 8 pivoted by a pin 11 to the end of the arm 5. A U-shaped member 12, 13, which passes between the guide 4 and the support 3 has oblong holes 14 in its flanges 13, through which passes the bolt 6, the holes 14 permitting the engagement of the guide 4 and web 12 of the U-shaped member as a friction brake when the lever 1 bears against the fulcrum 2.
