Abstract
604,732. Hooks. WELDING INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and ORCHARD, R. H. Dec. 3, 1945, No. 32621. [Class 89 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A crane &c. hook is provided with a pivoted mousing member that tends to remain in the closedposition solely by gravity and that is closed more firmly by any pressure from the load carrying member within the hook but is readily movable either by hand or by pressure from the load member about to enter the hook. The hook is formed from plates 1 separated by distance pieces 9, 19 and outwardly cranked to receive the suspension pulley 20. The mousing piece 13 straddles the hook, the two parts having a connection at 14 that engages shoulders 15 on the hook plates forming a stop for the closed position. The opening movement is limited by the distance piece 19. The piece 9 comprises a pin headed at 10 and having a welded-on washer 12 ; it passes through the hook plates and a sleeve 7 welded to the plates at 8 and forms the pivot for the mousing piece. The hook is suspended by a pulley 20 having an antifriction bush mounted on a pin passing through the hook plates and retained in position by a split pin 24. A flat on the head 22 engages a welded-on abutment 26 to restrain the pin from rotation. A bar 30 welded to the plates 1 at 31 surrounds the pulley and acts as a guide for the rope. The hook is suited for use with a load-holder as described in Specification 595,172, [Group XXX].
