Abstract

790,174. Slings for hoisting loads. MOYMASCHINEN-ANSTALT. March 16, 1956 [March 16, 1955], No. 8245/56. Class 78 (4). A lifting cradle comprises runners 12, Fig. 1, for passing e.g. under a stack of sawn timber, and suspended from ropes 1 ... 4, separated by spreaders 6, 9, through securing devices 10 which include means for preventing relative movement between the securing devices 10 and the runners 12. Each device 10 may comprise a member formed with a T-section cut-out 11, Fig. 2, for engaging over an I-section runner 12 to which it is secured by a U-section member 17 pivoted at 19 to the member 10 and biased by its own weight and by a spring 22 so that a nose 16 engages a hole 15 in the web 14 of the runner. In an alternative construction (Fig. 3, not shown), the member 17 engages a notch in an angle iron secured on one side of the web 14. Each securing device 10, Fig. 1, may alternatively comprise a pair of jaws 26, 27, Fig. 4, pivoted together at 28 and connected by a toggle linkage 31, 35 which is shown in an over-centre position so that the jaws 26, 27 can only be separated for disengagement from the runner 12 by pulling a handle 34. Sliding movement of the jaws 26, 27 relatively to the runner 12 is prevented by an end plate 39 welded to the end of each runner and a stop 40 welded to the flanges or to the web of the runner 12. The jaw 27 is shown as formed by two spaced plates 27<SP>1</SP>, 27<SP>11</SP> between which the jaw 26 and the toggle linkage 31, 35 are embraced. Each runner 12 may be reinforced by a tight loop of wire rope (Fig. 3, not shown) passing through holes in opposite ends of the web near the neutral plane; the rope also serves to support the load if the runner breaks.
