[Class 108 (iii) The upward and downward movements of the axle relatively to the frame 3, Fig. 1, of a vehicle are braked unequally by a band 9 encircling a drum 13, and connected to a differential lever 10, the mechanism being enclosed in a casing, secured to the frame and the drum connected to the operating arm 6. A spring 14 applies the minimum tension to the band. Two oppositely acting bands side by side on the drum may be used. The operation of the brake may be modified in accordance with the range of movement by an arm 23, Fig. 5, connected to lever 10 and engaging a cam 22 movable with the drum. In a further modification a similar arm is operated by a mass so as to give inertia control. The spring controlling the differential lever may be limited by spaced stops against movement in either direction- The adjustment may be controlled from a distance-
