Abstract
637,520. Fly frame stopping mechanism. BLAN & CIE., and CARRETTE, M. Feb. 26, 1947, Nos. 5614 and 5615. Convention dates, April 23, 1946 and July 29, 1946. [Class 120 (ii)] In a stop mechanism for fly frames, a fluid stream is directed through a perforated plate so that when any broken sliver which is carried along in the fluid stream clogs the perforation in the plate a pressure variation is set up which is used to operate the stopping means for the frame. When a sliver 1 breaks, the end is sucked into an opening 4 and against a perforated piston 8 which moves to the left to tilt a mercury switch 13 to energise a solenoid 15 and remove a stop 17 from a weight- or spring- biased lever 19 to allow the same to move a rod 23 to the right and so shift the driving belt from the fast to the loose pulley. As the piston moves towards the end of its stroke to the left, Fig. 1, a port 35 is opened and the broken end separated by the operative is drawn away. The mechanism is " locked " temporarily in this position by a pivoted lever 31 which engages a projection 33 on the piston rod 9. After " piecing" by the operative, he pushes the rod 23 to the left, to restart the frame, and a cam 34 rocks the lever 31 to free the piston 8. In a modification, a mercury manometer, provided with the necessary terminals, replaces the mercury switch 13. In a further modification, the piston 8 is replaced by a pivotal flap carrying an arm which operates the switch 13. In a still further modification, the switch 13 is operated by a lever system from a bell jar partly immersed in liquid, the inside of the bell jar being connected to the suction conduit.
