Abstract
660,005. Centrifugal pumps. GUINARD, P. A. July 2, 1948, No. 17834/48. Class 110(i) In a centrifugal pump of the type in which priming is effected by the circulation of a spare volume of water in a closed circuit so as to remove emulsified air from the suction side to the delivery side of the pump, the spare water being contained in a delivery chamber which is connected to the suction pipe of the pump during priming, communication of the chamber with the atmosphere is controlled by a vent valve which is connected to a delivery check valve. The priming may be assisted by a water-ring pump. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, when the delivery check valve 5 lifts on completion of priming, a groove 27 on the valve spindle 26 moves away from a duct 30 so as to cut off the communication of the delivery chamber through duct 30 and a duct 29 with the atmosphere. In a modification, Fig. 7, the communication with the atmosphere is established by way of a port 36, chamber 38 and port 37. When the check valve 5 (not shown) lifts, a crank 33 connected to its spindle lifts a valve 35 so as to close the port 37.
