Abstract

636,685. Liquid fuel burners. DAVIES, K. R. April 18, 1947, No. 10460. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a fuel burner the flow of fuel is varied by a leaf spring extending across ports leading into a swirl chamber. The burner comprises a cup-like main body 10 in which a thick walled cylindrical swirl body 14 and nozzle plate 15 are retained in position by a threaded cap 12. An annular fuel space 17 communicates with a central swirl chamber 18 by ports 19 each defined by a wall 20 tangential to the swirl chamber 18 and by a curved wall 21. A leaf spring 22 secured at one end in a notch 23 is bent round the body 14 with its free end in contact with wall 20. An end closure member 24 bolted to the cylindrical swirl body 14 has a divided skirt 25, which holds the leaf springs 22 in position. Variation in pressure of the fuel supply in the annular space 17, deflects the leaf springs 22 thus varying the effective cross-sectional area of the ports 19.
