Abstract
635,029. Valve amplifying circuits. HIGHAM, E. H., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1947, No. 29616. [Class 40 (vi)] In a direct-coupled amplifier an intervalve coupling is constituted by a discharge device of the kind having a voltage stabilizing characteristic, which discharge device has its anode connected to the anode of the preceding valve and its cathode connected to the grid of the succeeding valve, together with a constant current device connected between said grid and a source of negative biassing potential. As shown, a neon tube N is connected between the anode of valve V1 and the grid of valve V2, and a pentode V3 in series with a variable resistor R3, is arranged as the constant current device. The voltage across the neon tube will be approximately constant and obtained with a relatively small ohmic resistance, and the resistance of the valve V3 will be relatively large for a relatively small voltage drop. In this way a high coupling efficiency is maintained and considerably less biassing voltage required than in a resistance-coupled arrangement..
