Abstract

618,076. Limiters. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., and MYNALL, D. J. Oct. 16, 1946, No. 30840. [Class 40 (v)] An amplitude limiter comprises a valve 1 connected by resistances between points respectively positive and negative in potential with respect to earth. The input circuit comprises series resistance 5 and a shunt diode 3, while the cathode is connected to earth over a further diode 4. On positive-going excursions of the input, the grid potential is held constant by conduction in the diode 3. With excursions in the negative sense the valve 1 acts as a cathode follower until the anode current is sufficiently reduced for conduction to occur in the diode 4. The valve cathode is then held at earth potential and further increase of input in a negative direction causes the valve to be cut off.
