Abstract
634,268. Glazing. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1947, No. 32421. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1946. [Class 56] In a method of glazing objects in which the glaze is mixed with a binder and the paste thus formed is applied to the object and fired thereon, an oxidizing agent, e.g. KNO 3 , is included in the paste to ensure the complete removal of the binder by combustion. In an example, 8 kgs. of glaze powder, comprising 71 parts PbO, 14.8 parts B 2 O 3 , 10.2 parts SiO 2 and 4 parts ZnO, is melted and fritted and the frit is stirred up with 2 litres of aqueous solution containing 16 grms. KNO 3 . This mixture after drying is mixed with a solution of 240 gms. paraffin wax in 2 litres of toluol and again dried. The glaze bodies, to be applied to the object, are made in a press from the dried powder which includes by weight 0.2 per cent KNO 3 and 3 per cent paraffin wax. Specification 657,540 is referred to.
