Abstract

In a method of making a paste for the coating of surfaces with a noble metal, a compound of the noble metal is dispersed in a combustible organic medium and then converted into the metal thus forming a dispersion of the noble metal in the medium. The oxide of the metal, e.g. silver, is preferably used and may be added in suspension in turpentine to a solution of colophony in turpentine, the colophony reducing the oxide to the metal. Lead resinate and boric acid, with or without ethyl silicate, may also be added to produce a flux on firing. The paste may be applied to mica condenser plates and then fired at 500-550 DEG C. with or without previous drying. Specifications 558,714 and 566,718 are referred to.
