Abstract

The ceramic shed of the insulator has a vitreous semi-conductive bleeder coating for voltage equalisation and its metallic top cap and central pin are cemented in place using conductively loaded Portland cement, all surfaces being primed beforehand with a priming and bedding coating of conductive loaded asphalt. The cement mix when wet has 0.35 - 0.45 of water to 0.65 - 0.55 dry ingredients. These dry ingredients contain, mixed with the Portland cement base, 2 wt% of C fibres with dia. 5 - 25 mu and 0.5 - 3 wt% of C black. The priming cpd. which uses naphtha solvent, contains 20 - 40 esp. 32 - 38 wt% of C black in its asphalt base. Prod. has good electrical performance (reduced corona discharge), reliable mech. characteristics and thermal compensation etc.
