Abstract
634,098. Regulation of reciprocating pumps. VENNING, J. D. E. Oct. 2, 1946, No. 29432. [Class 102(i)] In a governor for hydraulic pumps of the kind in which an inlet valve of the pump is held open by a spring-loaded plunger when the pump delivery pressure acting thereon exceeds a predetermined value, a rod 2 co-axial with the plunger 17 extends through the loading spring 5, carries a piston-like flange or guide member 3 against which the spring bears, and operates the pump inlet valve through a lever device. In Fig. 1, the lever device comprises two overlapping levers 15 pivoted within a notched flange 9 formed on a threaded bush 6 screwed into a hollow fitting 1. The levers act on the inlet valve (not shown) through a member 25 with a stem 16. The bush 6 is adjusted by a rotary spindle 11 having a flange 13 with two diametrically opposite projections 14 engaging pinionwise the notches in the flange 9. The plunger 17 which has a connection 4 to the pump delivery, may be integral with the rod 2 and the flange 3 as shown in Fig. 4. In the latter case, the rod 2 acts on the spring-loaded ball inlet valve 29 of the pump through a bell-crank lever 18 with an adjustable tappet screw 20 engaging a spring-pressed slidable member 22 with an extension to engage the valve 29.
