Abstract

849,641. Governor transmitting mechanisms; turbines. JONKOPINGS MEKANISKA WERKSTADS A.B. June 3, 1958, No. 17719/58. Classes 57 and 110 (3). Apparatus for reducing the speed of a steam turbine from its normal speed maintained by a governor-controlled regulating valve 2 comprises an hydraulic piston 15 and cylinder 16 fitted to the valve body 1 and operable by liquid supplied from a remote control pump through a pipe connection 24 to the cylinder 16 to override the governor control and move the valve 2 towards its closed position. A centrifugal governor (not shown) is connected by linkage at 8 to a regulating lever 9 pivoted at 10 and having a spherical end 12 engaging an elongated slot 5 in the valve stem head 4, a spring 13 normally keeping the end 12 in contact with the lower end 6 of the slot so that the valve is controlled by the governor. The piston 15 is pressed upwards against a light spring 22 by a stronger spring 19 and has a rod 14 extending through the cylinder 16. The control pump, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a spring-loaded piston movable in a cylinder by a screw provided with a handwheel to pump oil to or from the cylinder 16 through channel 23. When it is desired to reduce the turbine speed, the control pump is actuated manually to supply oil to the cylinder 16, the consequent downward movement of the piston 15 causing the rod 14 to first engage the head 4, as shown in Fig. 1, and then move the valve 2 towards the closed position; the governor control then being ineffective and the valve regulated hydraulically. The downward limit of the rod 14 is set by a shoulder 25 thereon that abuts an adjustable bush 26.
