[Also in Divisions B8 and F1] An appliance for dispensing fluids from a puncturable container comprises a pointed valve member 17 for puncturing the container and controlling flow from the container by acting as a needle valve. The pointed valve member is formed on the end of a plunger 16 received in a recess of a piston member 12 which is loaded by a spring 20 toward the valve open position. The piston 12 carries a ball bearing 22 which abuts a cam member 23, mounted for rotation by a spring-loaded arm 24 pivoted at 26. The surface 30 of the cam holds the valve in the closed position but when the lever is rotated, the surface 31 of the cam allows the valve to open under the action of the spring. Fluid may be dispersed through an outlet 43, or between the side of the container and a sleeve 33. A pressure relief valve 46 may be provided which is actuated by an adjustable abutment 48 in the arm 24. In the position shown with the valve 17 closed, the valve 46 is open to relieve pressure in the outlet line. When the arm is actuated to open the valve 17, a spring closes the valve 46. This arrangement may also be used for dispensing measured quantities where the outlet 43 is connected to a measuring chamber, or itself constitutes a measuring chamber and the valve 46 controls the outlet of the appliance. A rubber abutment 15 may be provided for the plunger 16 so that on screwing the fluid container, the plunger 16 first takes up a lost motion between the plunger and piston 12 before piercing the container. The container may be attached by means which prevent relative rotation between the container and valve member 17.
