[Also in Division B3] A valve for dispensing measured quantities of fluid, e.g. gas, from a source of fluid under pressure comprises an actuator 16, 19 adapted, when operated to open a one-way inlet valve 10, 11 and close an outlet passage 12 leading from a chamber 9, the actuator being maintained in this position by means of spring- loaded balls 22 acting on a detent surface 15 until the pressure builds up in the chamber so as to move the actuator and thereby open the outlet passage. The chamber 9 is formed in a housing 8 which may be screwed on to a holder 2 containing a bulb 1 of pressurized gas a needle 5 being adapted to pierce the bulb. The amount of gas dispersed can be varied by altering the size of the chamber 9 or by changing the shape of the detent surface 15 or the loading of the springs 21, 23. In an application of the valve the dispensed gas is used to eject a cork from a wine bottle, the gas being introduced into the bottle by means of a hollow needle which pierces the cork.
