Abstract
819,369. Inflation valves. NELSON, T. Aug. 7, 1956, No. 24188/56. Class 135. An inflation valve providing an outlet pressure 15 which is automatically limited to a value pre-set by a dial 67, secured to a screw 62 acting on the loading spring 60 of a diaphragm 32 subject to outlet pressure at 45 and controlling a valve 24 through which pressure from an inlet 14, 16 reaches the outlet 15, has an override dial setting beyond the maximum pressure setting in which the valve 24 is positively held open to supply full line pressure for rapid initial inflation of large tyres. The diaphragm 32 operates the valve 24 through a lever 29, fulcrummed at 30 in a spring-supporting diaphragm-head 31 and having a cam outer end engaging a snap-over blade spring 43. Outlet pressure 15 reaches the diaphragm chamber 45 through a leaky ball-valve 52 and snaps the lever 29 up to permit closure of the valve 24, when the set pressure is reached, the loading spring 60 snapping the lever 29 down to open the valve 24 before that stage. Inflation proceeds with a pulse action. The pressureset screw 62 acts on the loading spring 60 through and end-plug 61 having a downward extension 75, which, in the override setting, contacts the diaphragm head 31 to hold it positively down in the valve-open position. In Fig. 2, not shown, the extension 75 has a depending screw threaded in its bore and adjustable to vary the point of action of the override, the screw head being accessible through an aligned bore in the main setting screw 62. Apart from the override provision, the device is identical with-that of Specification. 698,819.
