Abstract

507,972. Fluid - actuated valves. LE MOUILLOUR, J. July 4, 1938, Nos. 19793 and 19794. Convention dates, July 5, 1937 and Feb. 5, 1938. [Class 135] A valve device for use with pressure storage water heaters is adapted to function as a stopvalve, inlet non-return, valve, reducing valve and pressure relieving valve. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the non-return valve comprises a diaphragm 5 clamped peripherally and' provided with a central aperture reinforced by a tubular member 4 normally held by the initial tension of the diaphragm against a seat 6. This seat is carried by a tubular member the upper end of which forms the seat for the relief valve member 10 which is actuated by a diaphragm against the action of a spring 12. The lift of the non-return valve is limited by a flange 14. The valve 4, 6 opens to permit water to now from the inlet 2 to the outlet 3. As pressure builds up in the outlet it raises the diaphragm against the action of the spring, the member 7 however, follows the valve member 10 under the action of a resilient bellows 13 to cause a throttling action at the valve 4-6. When this valve finally closes and the member 4 is moved into engagement with the flange 14 a further use of outlet pressure removes the valve 10 from its seat and allows excess pressure to escape through a discharge passage 8. The inlet may be closed mechanically by rotating a cam member 17 to move the closed valve 4-6 into contact with the flange 14. The discharge valve may be opened manually by manipulating a bell-crank lever 15 acting on the valve spindle 16. In a modification the members 4 and 7 co-operate with a single spring supported seat adapted to be moved by a cam to close the inlet. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the central aperture of the non-return valve has vertical rim reinforced by a tubular member 22 adapted to co-operate with a seat member 16, 12 screwed to a tubular member 19 having a cylindrical part 26 with discharge ports 23. The cylindrical part 26 is adapted to pass into the member 22 and interrupt the flow before the valve seats. The seat member 19 is connected to the casing by a bellows 18 and to the movable abutment of the loading spring of the diaphragm 29 by a rod 36 with a flanged head engaging a supplementary spring 38. In this form both manual operations are effected by manipulating a single lever.
