Abstract

633,179. Spreading grit. BUTLER, P., and BAKER, S. L. Aug. 28, 1947, No. 23852. [Class 6(i)] A grit-spreading attachment for a tipping lorry includes a rotary valve which opens progressively across the width of the vehicle to control the extent of the spreading. A transverse baffle 1, supporting the mass of the grit, terminates just short of the vehicle floor, leaving a gap 2 through which grit passes to the rotary valve which comprises a partially-cylindrical plate 3 having a helically-shaped leading edge. The plate is secured to spaced discs 8 mounted on a shaft 4 rotatable by means of handles 7. The quantity of material spread may be further controlled by a vertically-adjustable gate 9 having a serrated lower edge 9<SP>1</SP>, the gate being mounted on threaded rods 13 rotatable by handles 14.
