Abstract
689,531. Distributing fertilizers &c. DAVIDSON, J. C. May 15, 1951 [May 15, 1950], No. 11310/51. Class 6(i) [Also in Group XXX] Fertilizers and like discrete materials are distributed by apparatus comprising an apertured base plate 20 secured to a tractor, a hopper 21 fitted to the base plate over the aperture, an apertured cylindrical shoot 26 adjustable about its axis fitted centrally beneath the aperture, and a valve plate 44 pivoted at 46 to the base plate for controlling the rate of discharge. The material is distributed by a fan having blades 36 and driven by a powerdriven spindle 38, the central part of the fan being arranged around the shoot. Further, the spindle carries agitating means located both within the hopper and within the shoot. In the construction shown, the agitating means within the hopper comprise flexible members acting like flails and mounted in holes 42 of a sleeve 41; inclined stirrer rods 40 are also mounted within the hopper. The material passes through the aperture 23 of the base plate, as adjusted by the plate 44, and into the shoot where it mixes with air which is drawn in by the fan through the gap which exists between the flanged top of the shoot and the base plate. The position of the shoot about its axis is adjusted by a handle 30 in order to control the position of the discharge aperture 28 in the shoot, and the material which is again agitated by vanes 39 on the spindle passes through the aperture 28 to be distributed by the fan. As shown in the inverted plan view, Fig. 6, a casing covering 53 ensures that the material is thrown only to the rear of the machine. The hopper is filled by a bucket 56, Fig. 1, (not shown), pivotally mounted at 57 on frames 58 which are connected to the hydraulically-controlled lever arms 54- of the tractor. When the arms are raised, the bucket is tilted, to discharge its contents into the hopper 21, by encountering a bar 59 extending across the rear of the hopper.
