Abstract

804,318. Fertilizer distributers. WILLANS, K. W. April 4, 1955 [Jan. 4, 1954], No. 138/54. Class 6(1). Apparatus for spreading fertilizer comprises a hopper 3 closed at its bottom end and having a discharge aperture in the lower part of its side wall, a horizontally disposed rotatable spinner 17 mounted below the hopper and secured on a vertical shaft which extends upwardly into the hopper and carries stirrer blades which assist in feeding material to the discharge aperture. The lower part of the hopper is surrounded by a sleeve 12 formed with an aperture, the effective size of which is controlled by a pivoted flap 14 operated by means of a hand-lever 16 through a bowden cable 17. The spinner 17 is provided with wedge-shaped vanes 19 and an annular plate 20 and acts as a centrifugal fan drawing in air from the inner edge of plate 20 and the bottom of the hopper. Means may be provided for delivering water into the spinner plate at or adjacent to the position at which material is fed from the hopper. Deflectors may be provided for influencing the distribution of material after it has been thrown off by the spinner.
