Abstract

236,400. Walker, M. W. Aug. 7, 1924. Feeding - devices for granular and like materials.-Relates to machines for feeding powdery or granular material and of the type comprising a stationary container or hopper having a funnel - shaped lower portion provided at its lower end with a central conical opening within which rotates a conical body secured upon an adjustable vertical spindle, the lower edge of the conical body being below the bottom of the container and of somewhat greater diameter than the opening and the spindle carrying a disc within the container on to which the material is delivered. According to the invention, the disc 16 is secured to the spindle 11 just above the conical body 9 and agitators 16, 18 are provided to operate around the edge of the disc 16 and in the opening 2 in the bottom of the container 6 respectively. An inclined shoot 14 with a guard 15 for the spindle 11 may receive the material from the container and deliver it to a conveyer screw &c. The spindle 11 may be adjusted by means of a lever 12 and screw 13. The conical body 9 has at its lower end a flange-like portion 10 having a flatter angle than the main portion 9. The agitator 17 above the disc 16 extends outward from the spindle 11 and downward beyond the edge of the disc 16. The spindle may be driven by gearing arranged above or below the container. The apparatus is applicable for feeding small quantities of one material into larger quantities of some other material which is being carried by a screw &c. through a trough or receptacle.
