Abstract

Sampling granular &c. materials.-The mouth of a fixed main hopper A through which the material to be sampled passes is provided with an inverted conical guide B the lower end of which delivers the material into the open top c' of a rotating hopper C. This rotating hopper, which is preferably provided with a counter-balance c<6>, is formed with an off-set delivery mouth c' and is secured by a boss c<5> to a rotating shaft c<4>. During each revolution of the hopper its mouth is brought over a side delivery shoot D and so a certain proportion of the material passing through the main hopper is taken off through this shoot and delivered from its mouth d<3>. The outlet a<3> of the main hopper is provided with a door a<4>. The shaft c' runs in ball bearings and is mounted in a. casing E. A worm-wheel F on the shaft is driven by a worm on a shaft rotating at a desired rate. The size of the opening at the top of the side delivery shoot may be adjustable to vary the quantity delivered through this shoot, or shoots of different sizes may be used.
