Abstract

187,029. Whitehead, E. July 13, 1921. Feeding-devices for granular and like materials. - Apparatus for regulating the feed of finely divided substances comprises a rotary grooved roller 10, arranged at the bottom of a container 13 having a spring-controlled hinged wall 15, for feeding the material upon a shoot 20, and a divider 21 pivoted to the shoot for deflecting a portion of the material away from the remainder for mixing and other purposes. A hopper 30 may be combined with the feed apparatus. The substance is fed by a shoot 50 into the hopper 30 wherein it is broken up by agitators 36 mounted upon a shaft 35 and fed by a screw 42 through adjustable openings 32, 33 into the container. The portion of the the substance to be subsequently mixed is diverted through a shoot 24 into a receptacle, the remainder passing through a shoot 25 into a well 26, from which it is transferred to the hopper by a bucket conveyer 51. Additional shoots may be provided for feeding into the hopper in succession, the substances to be subsequently mixed. The feed-roller may have a smooth periphery, or recesses of a form other than longitudinal grooves.
