Abstract
22,522. Gardner, C. E. Oct. 12. Feeding-appliances.-In appliances for feeding flour and other granular materials at regulated rates to mixing, packing, and other machines, comprising a hopper fitted with stirring-arms and a hit-and-miss regulating outlet-device for the hopper, the bottom of the hopper is made of a conical form, or a conical piece may be arranged in the bottom of the hopper to direct the material to the outlets which in this case are placed peripherally. Fig. 1 shows a device of the first type. In the hopper 1 are mounted rotating arms 10, 13 on a shaft 2. The outlet is regulated by openings in a fixed plate 11 and a plate 12 which turns on a pin and the position of which can be adjusted by means of a rack 16 and a handle 17 fitted with a pointer 18 moving over a scale. The plates 11, 12 are mounted on a part 20 which is pivoted so that it can be moved from under the hopper 1 to permit of changing the plates 11, 12, and is also fitted with inspection doors 22. The arms 13 may be provided with rollers for crushing lumps, and balls may be placed in the hopper for the same purpose.
