Abstract

710,306. Mining - appliances. AMALGAMATED LIMESTONE CORPORATION, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1952 [Dec. 21, 1951], No. 30029/51 Class 86 [Also in Group XXX] Powdered materials, e.g. cement are mixed into substanially homogeneous mixtures by feeding the materials into a trough 10 having a porous bottom wall 15, simultaneously and continuously supplying aerating air or gas under pressure to a chamber 17 below the porous bottom whence it passes substantially uniformly through the whole area of the porous bottom 15 into the trough to fluidize the powders therein and simultaneously and continuously mechanically stirring the powders and conveying them along the trough to discharge outlet 14. Preferably the trough 10 is shallow, the height of the trough being substantially equal to or a little greater than its width and the height or depth of the powder layer in the trough not exceeding the width of the layer. The chamber 17 may be substantially semicylindrical in cross-section, the height of the side walls being less than the width of the trough. The means for stirring and conveying the powders may comprise paddles 20 or a screw mounted on a shaft extending longitudinally of, and rotatably mounted in the trough.
