Abstract
683,531. Crop-dusting. BOTTLANDER, T. Sept. 26, 1950 [June 27, 1949], No. 17011/49. Class 6(i) A crop-duster comprises a blower 2 driven by a motor 5 and supplying air to a duct 1 terminating in an adjustable delivery cap 27, a hopper 8 being mounted above the duct to supply powder to the duct, partly by gravity and partly by the ejector action of the airstream. To increase. the ejector action an inclined baffle 12 extends below the hopper outlet, the baffle being flanked by vertical walls 16 which divide the airstream and increase its velocity. An air inlet pipe 18 extends down within the hopper to the hopper outlet, and this pipe, or a second pipe 25, may be used to convey seeds from a container 19 for broadcasting. The hopper outlet is controlled by a valve 10 which may be sliding or rotary. Rotary agitators, such as worms or paddles, may be mounted within the hopper. The whole device is mounted on a turntable 4, carried by a vehicle. In a modification, more than one hopper may be used and the cap 27 may be modified to a Y-shaped form with the limbs rotatable through 360 degrees. Partitions 26 extend within the hopper.
