Abstract
630,185. Winding thread &c. GRIMSHAW, J. A. March 19, 1945, No. 6927. [Class 120 (ii)] Thread, wire, &c. is wound upon a carrying member 27, e.g. a disc, card, &c. of circular or polygonal form and preferably notched about its periphery and having a central hole, by mechanism comprising hollow shaft 1 with a flier 5, 6 mounted thereon, the thread, &c. passing through the shaft and through holes 7, 8 in the flier arm 5, the shaft being driven by a pulley, &c., 9 and, through reduction gearing 10, 11, 13, 14, 19, 20, driving a spindle 22 upon the top of which the disc, card, &c., is clamped. The reduction ratio between the shaft 1 and the spindle 22 is preferably the same as, or a multiple or sub-multiple of, the number of notches, &c. in the disc &c. 27. The housing 23 of the spindle 22 is cut away at 34 to allow the flier arms, which rotate in a plane perpendicular to the member 27, to approach as near as possible to the axis of rotation of the disc 27. The gears 13, 14, 19, 20 preferably rotate in an oil bath 32. The clamping nut 29 for the disc 27 assists in guiding the thread &c.on to the disc slightly displaced from the central hole thereof.
