Abstract

Creel. arrangements; spindle-driving apparatus. -An electric device for controlling the rotation of bobbins when winding thereon or therefrom comprises a shaft 12, Fig. 1, to which is rigidly fixed a disc 14 of conducting material, a circular magnet-frame 17 provided with a coil 15 to produce a magnetic field intersecting the disc, and an armature-member 19. The parts 17, 19 are free to rotate on the shaft 12 and are held together by a member 20 of non-magnetic material, the securing screws 21 of which work in elongated slots to permit angular adjustment. The spool is mounted between members 28, 29 on the shaft 12 which, normally, is rotated while the parts 17, 19 are held stationary by stops 27. The members 17, 19 may be rotated by means of a belt over a pulley 23, and the shaft 12 dragged round in consequence. One application of the device is shown in Fig. 4, wherein a wire 30 is being wound on a bobbin 34 from a spool 33 mounted on the shaft 12. When the shaft 35 carrying the bobbin 34 is rotated, the material 30 is tensioned to an extent depending on-the speed of rotation and the current through the coil 15 which latter may be regulated by the resistance 31. If it be desired to wind on the spool 33, the parts 17, 19 are rotated by a motor 24. A magnetically-operated brake 36 is provided to act on breakage of the material being wound, a slackening of the material 30 permitting a roller 38 to rise and to result in separation of the contacts 37 which causes the brake to act.
