[Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] The lid of a frictional lighter is connected to the casing by means of a spring plate secured to the inside of the lid and pivoted to a plate secured on top of the fuel reservoir. The casing 1 has fixed in it a reservoir 2 on the top of which is secured a cover-plate 10 formed with two recesses 11, 12, which are bridged over by a thin metal plate 13 secured to the cover plate 10. A spring steel actuating plate 30 is provided at one end with two lugs 31 which pass through an aperture in the bridging plate 13 into a recess 28 in the cover plate 10, where they are pivoted on a pin 29 extending across said recess ; the plate 30 is held against the top of the lid 27 by a locking plate 32 sprung into recesses 34 on the sides of the lid and by a shouldered centering pin 33, one end of which seats in a blind hole in the top of the lid. Towards the end remote from the lugs 31 the downwardly bent ends of two transverse extensions 37 of the actuating plate 30 resiliently engage the sides of the lid. The lugs 31 receive, to one side of the pin 29, a second pin 41 on which pivots a ball-ended link 42, the ball 43 of which engages a part-spherical recess in a plunger 44 slidable in the recess 12 in the cover plate 10 ; a spring 45 surrounding the shank 46 of the plunger holds the lid in the opened or closed position and prevents it from remaining in any intermediate position. To permit pivotal movement of the lid the edge 47 of the casing 1 and the corresponding edge of the lid are bevelled. In a modification, Fig. 12, the extensions 37 of the actuating plate 30 are dispensed with, the plate being positioned by a pin'48, the shank of which engages a blind hole in the top of the lid 27.
