Abstract
Foraminate catalysts of nickel aluminium are prepared by treating an alloy thereof having a nickel aluminium ratio of from 30 : 70 to 62 : 38 by weight and containing 0.02 to 0.5 per cent carbon by weight with an extracting liquid to remove not more than 70 per cent by weight of the initial aluminium. An aqueous solution containing 0.5 to 5 per cent by weight of caustic soda is used to extract the aluminium, and the catalyst may be reactivitated by further treatment with this aqueous solution until 70 per cent by weight of the aluminium has been removed. The catalysts can be used for hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis and reductive amination.ALSO:Nickel-aluminium alloys containing nickel and aluminium in the ratio of from 30:: 70 to 62 : 38 by weight and 0.02 to 5 per cent by weight of carbon are treated with an equeous solution containing 0.5 to 5 per cent by weight of caustic soda. Repeated extractions until 70 per cent of the aluminium originally present has been removed may be effected.
