Abstract

628,036. Elastic-fluid turbines and compressors. ATKINSON, J. Nov. 30, 1945, No. 32347. [Class 110(i) and 110(iii)] Blade-carrying rotors are built up of laminae 1 cut to provide axially directed seatings 4 for the blade roots. The roots may be of the fir tree kind, or, of the same general shape but without serrations and secured by pins. Endwise movement of the roots may be prevented by end laminae 5, Fig. 3 or by projections on an intermediate lamina. The blade roots may have several tongues 9. Fig. 6, interleaved with alternate laminae. Rings built up of laminae may be used to support stator blades and may be separated by solid spacer rings. Rotors may be built up of laminated blade-carrying rings and solid spacing discs. The laminae may be perforated or ribbed to provide passages for a cooling fluid which may be picked up by projecting scoops on a rotor or be introduced through a hollow shaft. A hollow blade 36, Fig. 8b, is constructed from sheet material. The hollow root 33 is filled with a block perforated to let cooling air to the blade. The air escapes through an opentrailing edge and through the tip. Rotor balancing pegs 31, Fig. 7, may be buried in the rotor laminae. They are tapped to take plugs 31a of varying weights. Balancing may also be effected by removing parts of a bead 37, Fig. 3. Specifications 628,100 and 628,101 are referred to.
