Abstract

808,258. Turbine and compressor bladed rotors. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 5, 1957 [July 5, 1956], No. 11171/57. Class 110 (3). In an axial-flow turbine or compressor bladed rotor in which the blades are mounted by their roots 14 in undercut slots 17 formed in the rim 11 of the rotor, the blades are secured against axial movement in the slots by means of keys 20, one key being disposed between each pair of circumferentially-adjacent blades and each key being inserted into a slot 21 in the rotor rim between the two blades of the pair and into notches 23 in those blades. Each key is secured against radial displacement by a pin 26 inserted through aligned holes in the wheel rim and key. The blades 12 have aerofoil portions 13, root portions 14 of fir-tree form and platform portions 15 therebetween. The blade-mounting slots 17 in the rotor are of corresponding fir-tree form and the stubs 22 between the slots 17 formed with circumferentially-extending slots 21 to receive the keys 20 which are of rectangular form. Each key 20 engages slots 23 formed in the adjacent edges of each pair of blade platforms 15, the keys being secured by means of pins 26 which engage bores 27 in the rotor stubs 22 and 28 in the keys 20, the pins being a tight fit in the bores in the keys. A bore 31 is provided in the rotor stub in alignment with the bore 27 to facilitate removal of the pin. In a further embodiment, the blade-mounting slot is inclined to the turbine axis, the key 20 is disposed perpendicularly thereto and the pin 26 is disposed perpendicularly to the key.
