Abstract

813,144. Turbine and compressor blades. BROWN BOVERI & CIE. A.G. Dec. 6, 1956 [Dec. 6, 1955], No. 37314/56. Class 110 (3). A turbine or compressor blade unit comprises either a single blade profile portion having means for attachment to a rotor, or a pair of blade profile portions having common means for attachment to a rotor, and the attachment means comprises a platform portion having an integral root, the root being shaped so as to engage in an axially-extending slot formed in the rotor. The invention is shown applied to a blade unit having a pair of profile portions 1, a common platform portion 2 and a root 3 which engages in a slot formed in the rotor disc 6. The root 3 is circumferentially offset with respect to the platform 2 so that the resultant of the circumferential and radial forces acting on the blade unit is offset with respect to an oppositely-acting balancing force. The circumferential ends of the platform portion 2 are shaped to provide inter-engaging projections 4 so that the couple due to the offset forces is transmitted at both ends of the platform to the platforms of the adjacent blade units.
