624,965. Refrigerating; desiccants. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 18, 1947, No. 19245. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1946. [Classes 29 and 34(i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a compression refrigerating system, the liquid refrigerant from the condenser 28 is dried in a unit 32 containing silica gel or activated alumina of such a grain size that the drying unit constitutes the major part of the restriction of refrigerant flow to the evaporator 26. Liquid passes from the condenser through a tube 30, and through a filter mesh 48 to the unit 32 in which it passes in succession through coarse grained dehydrating material 46, a fine mesh 42, fine grained dehydrating material 36, a fine mesh 38 and a coarse mesh 40. The conduit 30 may be a capillary one to provide part of the restriction.
