919,429. Refrigerating systems. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 11, 1961 [Oct. 24, 1960], No. 36472/61. Class 29. In a refrigerating system including a compressor 54 and a condenser 84, an upwardly elongated liquid refrigerant container 96 has an inlet 98 intermediate its upper and lower ends connected to the compressor outlet 82 and has an upper outlet connected to the condenser inlet. As shown, the refrigerant container 96 is an upright cylinder closed at the lower end, the dimensions of the container and of a pipe 121 connecting the compressor outlet to the container inlet being given. The compressor is a two-stage unit with an inter-stage cooler 76 for the refrigerant. From the outlet of the condenser 84 refrigerant passes successively through a filter-dryer 131, a capillary tube 133, an evaporator 30 in a freezer compartment, an evaporator 42 in a cooling compartment, an accumulator 50 also in the cooling compartment, and back to the compressor first stage. The upper part of the container 96 may contain baffles with staggered openings in them (Fig. 3, not shown). An absorbent such as silica gel or activated alumina may be included in the container.
