In a compression refrigerating system, refrigerant vapour flowing from the evaporator to the compressor is dried by silica gel &c. contained in a transparent outer tube 10, the absorbent being in heat exchange relation with liquid refrigerant flowing from the condenser to the evaporator through a coaxial pipe 14 provided with perforated fins 16. The absorbent changes colour when saturated and this can be observed through the transparent tube 10. The unit has filters 13 at the ends.
