Abstract

854,702. Refrigerating. C. K. D. PRAHA NARODNI PODNIK. March 18, 1959 [March 19, 1968], No. 9470/59. Class 29 In an absorption system using water as the refrigerant and a strong solution of a solid salt, e.g. lithium chloride or bromide, as absorbent the evaporator and the absorber comprise side-by-side horizontal cylinders 1, 2 of the same crosssectional area joined together at corresponding ends by ducts 16, 17 of like crosssectional area. The evaporator 1 contains trays 13 packed with ceramic material 14 and the water enters by pipe 26 into an apertured spray header 15, the chilled water being led off for use by pipe 27. Strong solution enters absorber 2 through pipe 25 and is sprayed over cooling tubes 5 by apertured header 7 and perforated plate 8, spent solution being withdrawn by pipe 9. Air is withdrawn from the absorber through apertured longitudinal pipe 10. Each duct 16. 17 is arched upwardly and has a water separator 18 at its highest point, the separated water flowing down backwardly to the evaporator. One or both of the ducts 16, 17 is or are detachable from the cylinders 1, 2 to enable the internal fittings thereof to be withdrawn.
