Convention date, July 25, 1930. [Class 29.] Absorption systems.-In continuous cycle inert gas systems the liquefied refrigerant on its way from the condenser 13, Fig. 1, to the evaporator 16 is cooled by direct contact with the inert gas and vapour mixture circulating from the evaporator to the absorber 25. The condensate flows into a vessel 14 and thence by a pipe 15 to the evaporator, while the gas mixture is led from the evaporator by a pipe 19 into the vessel 14 and thence by a pipe 20 to the usual gas heat exchanger 23 and by a further pipe 24 to the absorber. Unevaporated refrigerant may flow out of the evaporator through a small opening 21 and the outflow end of the pipe 20 is formed with a funnel or gutter plate 22. In a modification, Fig. 2, the condensate is led through a pipe 40 directly into the space in the gas heat exchanger 28 traversed by the gas mixture flowing from the evaporator to the absorber.
