Abstract

368,918. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London.- (Assignees of Platen-Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag ; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm.) Jan. 23, 1931, No. 2294. Convention date, Jan. 25, 1930. [Class 29.] Absorption systems.-Generation of refrigerant vapour, e.g. ammonia, from solution, is effected at a relatively low temperature in a vessel 10 heated indirectly by conduction through a mass of metal 23, 24, 25, such as copper or aluminium, itself heated by the heat of condensation of expelled solution vapour in the upper part of an auxiliary vessel 16 heated externally. Strong solution flows from the absorber 15, preferably a horizontal vessel with a small liquid head, through a pipe 19 to the generator 10, and the degasefied solution flows by a'pipe 18 to the auxiliary vessel, which is fitted with one or more apertured plates 26. These plates serve to catch the boiling liquid, which finds its way into a pipe 20 formed with a seal bend 21 and returns to the absorber. The plates 26 may be conical or helical, or set at an inclination, and may be formed of wire gauze. The apparatus shown is of the inert gas type, and condensate from the condenser 12 preferably enters the evaporator 13 through a pipe adapted to retain a column of liquid variable with pressure variations. Heat exchange between the liquor pipes 19, 20 is effected by a series of metal strips 22.
