Abstract
1368186 Refrigerating; defrosting SARLAB AG 31 Aug 1972 [3 Sept 1971] 40405/72 Heading F4H In an inert gas absorption refrigerating apparatus, the high temperature part 29 of the evaporator is defrosted by hot refrigerant condensate flowing from the condenser 25 through a conduit 26 into heat exchange with the evaporator when the circulation of gas in the gas circulation system is blocked by the liquid refrigerant which is continuously collected in the bend of a U-pipe 36, which is termed the third level, until a first level is established at the lower end 41 of a conduit 33 in the evaporator to prevent gas flow therethrough and the pipe 36 is periodically emptied by syphonic action when the liquid level rises to a second level above the highest point 44 of a siphon 43. As shown, gas weak in refrigerant, is prevented from flowing into the lower end 41 of the conduit 33 whence in normal flow it is conducted into contact with refrigerant condensate at the upper end 27 of the evaporator. The siphon is connected to the absorber vessel 21 and the U-pipe is connected by one leg 40 to the vapour space of theboiler 15. In a modification, Fig. 2, the U-pipe is situated between the evaporator and absorber vessel in a conduit for rich gas in the gas circulation system, the liquid seal being formed at a first level which is above the upper wall of the bend of a U-tube.
