688,562. Refrigerating. EVANS, O. J. Aug. 16,1951 [Aug. 31, 1950; Nov. 8, 1950], Nos. 21521/50 and 27296/50. Class 29 In a continuous-cycle absorption system liquid refrigerant from the condenser 12 is delivered to the evaporator 15 by an injector nozzle 22 disposed in a venturi tube 23 and at least one further nozzle 25 is provided, each nozzle causing a flow of hydrogen into the evaporator from the absorber 16. The ammonia supply pipe 13 has a liquid trap 14 and the mixture of ammonia and hydrogen from the injector 22 passes down the first U-shaped limb 15a of the evaporator and then passes through the nozzle 25 into the second U-shaped limb 15b drawing in hydrogen through an inlet 24a from the hydrogen circulating pipe 24. A third nozzle 26 causes hydrogen to be drawn into the lowest limb 15c of the evaporator. A pipe 27 allows part of the hydrogen-ammonia mixture to return to the pipe 24 without passing through the absorber; this is stated to avoid the use of a gas heat-exchanger. A pipe 28 connects the absorber vessel 17 to the condenser. According to the Provisional Specifications the liquid refrigerant supply pipe may exchange heat with the exit pipe from the evaporator and the nozzle 23 may be insulated or have external fins.
