Abstract

1,105,971. Refrigerating. J. T. BYRON. 17 March, 1965 [17 March, 1964], No. 11239/65. Heading F4H. In a refrigeration system having a compressor, condenser, restrictive device and evaporator, the system is charged with more refrigerant than is necessary to satisfy the requirements of the evaporator and the restrictive effect of the restrictive device is sufficiently low that no vaporization of the liquid refrigerant occurs in the device. Preferably the device is a " capillary " tube, the system includes a liquid receiver and an accumulator of a capacity equal to or greater than that of the evaporator, and the capillary tube is in heat exchange relation with a portion of the suction line. As shown, the accumulator 25 encloses a cylinder 25a in which is disposed the capillary tube 26 and to which liquid refrigerant is supplied through line 16<SP>1</SP>. Refrigerant liquid and vapour from the evaporator enter the accumulator through pipe 19<SP>1</SP> and vapour is withdrawn through line 28. Baffles 27 and an oil outlet (not shown) are provided. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) cylinder 25a is omitted and tube 26 and line 16<SP>1</SP> are interconnected. Preferred capillary tube dimensions and compressor sizes are given for varying application and the performance of the system under particular conditions is discussed.
