881,180. Refrigerating. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO. Ltd. July 26, 1960 [Aug. 15, 1959], No. 27971/59. Class 29. A liquid refrigerant pump system comprises a reservoir 4 for liquid refrigerant to be pumped, a cooling system 8 for the reservoir, a pump 5 arranged to draw liquid refrigerant from the reservoir and to deliver it through a pipe 6, a heat exchanger 3 for the transfer of heat from a liquid refrigerant passing from a source 1 to the reservoir 4 to liquid refrigerant in the delivery pipe 6, and a bleed 9 for liquid refrigerant from the source 1 before the reservoir 4 through an expansion valve 10 to the reservoir cooling system. The cooling system consists of a pipe coil 8 surrounding the reservoir 4. The valve 10 is controlled by the temperature at the end of the coil 8 remote from the bleed pipe 9. This temperature is sensed by a bulb 11. A return pipe 12 for spent refrigerant from the coil 8 includes a back pressure valve 13 to maintain a predetermined evaporating pressure in the reservoir cooling system. The bleed 9 may be taken directly from the source 1 or, as shown, from between the source 1 and the heat exchanger 3. Alternatively, the bleed may be taken from the pipe 2 between the reservoir 4 and the heat exchanger 3.
