Abstract
1,070,502. Refrigerating; heat pumps. J. & E. HALL Ltd. March 9, 1964 [Dec. 10, 1962], No. 46468/62. Heading F4H. Gaseous refrigerant from the input side of the condenser of a compression-type refrigerating system is introduced into the low pressure side of a heat pump system and refrigerant is returned from the heat pump condenser to the input of the condenser of the refrigerating system. As shown, the refrigeration system 1 comprises compressors 4a, 4b a condenser 5, receiver 6, coolers 3a, 3b, booster pumps 2a, 2b and an evaporator (not shown) while the heat pump system 7 comprises a compressor 9, an evaporator 8 and a condenser 10. A line 13 is provided to pass refrigerant from the input side of condenser 5 to the evaporator 8 under the control of a valve 18, a line 14 returns refrigerant from condenser 10 to condenser 5 under the control of a float valve 15, a line 23 passes refrigerant from the outlet of compressor 9 to the input side of condenser 5 under the control of a valve 24 and a line 17 admits refrigerant from receiver 6 to the evaporator 8 under the control of a float valve 16. A by-pass line 20 including a valve 21 is provided around the condenser 10. Valves 18 and 24 are controlled by an element 19 responsive to the outlet temperature of water heated by passage through a coil 12 in condenser 10 so that the heat output of the latter may be increased by opening valve 18 or reduced by opening valve 24. Valve 21, together with an unloading device 25 for the compressor cylinders, is controlled by an element 22 responsive to the outlet temperature of water cooled by passage through a coil 11 in evaporator 8 so that the required cooling temperature may be maintained during variations in the heat output of condenser 10. The heat pump may be used only for heating purposes in which case the evaporator, line 23, valve 24 and tube 11 may be omitted.
