Abstract
1,261,810. Refrigerators. GALT EQUIPMENT Ltd. 30 May, 1969 [26 July, 1968], No. 27435/69. Heading F4H. A temperature control unit, e.g. for maintaining the interior of a cargo container within a specified temperatue range, comprises a refrigeration unit having a compressor 8, Fig. 3, condenser coils 12a and evaporator coils 4a interconnected by conduits in a closed refrigeration circuit and fans 13, 15 for directing air over the evaporator and condenser respectively are driven by hydraulic motors 14, 16, Fig. 4. The motors are connected to a constant output hydraulic fluid pump 10 and reservoir 24 in an hydraulic system from which exhaust fluid is passed through heating coils 30, 31 located about the evaporator coils and in a drain pan therebelow under the control of a switch valve 28 in the system. The refrigeration circuit is controlled by a thermostatic expansion valve 22 and relief valve 23 located at the entrance to the evaporator coils 4a and condenser coils 12a respectively. A defrost sensor having pressure-sensitive elements 19a, 19b determines static pressure drop across the evaporator coils 4a when fan 13 is operating and a temperature-sensitive element 19c measures the temperature in the evaporator coils and controls the commencement and completion of defrosting by the heater coils 30, 31 via an electrical circuit (not shown). The electrical circuit also controls the hydraulic system via a diesel engine, the exhaust gases from which pass via a conduit 53 into a heat exchanger 51 filled with wax 52 having a high latent heat factor and a fusion point above water. Hydraulic fluid flows in a conduit 50 through the heat exchanger to the heater coils 30, 31 under the control of the valve 28. Additional heater coils 70 may be provided to heat the cargo container when the temperature falls below a predetermined level.
