624,782. Preventing corrosion. MERCK & CO., Inc. Dec. 19, 1946, No. 37364. Convention date, Feb. 26. [Class 123(i)] Corrosion inhibiting properties are imparted to water or an aqueous alcoholic mixture &c. in polymetallic systems, e.g. the cooling systems of internal combustion engines, by adding to the liquid small quantities of an alkali metal chromate, e.g. sodium chromate, benzoic or succinic acid or an alkali metal salt of one of them, and 2-methyl 2-amino-propanol-1. Suitable proportions by weight based on the weight per metric volume of the liquid are 0.25 per cent to 1.00 per cent metal chromate, 0.25 per cent acid, and 0.5 per cent to 1.25 per cent of 2-methyl, 2-amino-propanol-1. The pH of the liquid should be about 10.
