Abstract

622,118. Electrolytic polishing. CHARLESWORTH, P. A. Sept. 12, 1946, No. 20865. [Class 41] A method of polishing anodically stainless steel and analogous ferrous base alloys and nickel and its alloys employs an electrolyte containing sulphuric acid with or without phosphoric acid, and a relatively small amount of an additive consisting of an aromatic amino compound or compounds. Examples of additives are aniline or a homologue thereof, methylaniline, toluidine and acetotoluidine. Preferably, the acid concentration is between 50 and 80 per cent by weight of the solution, the ratio of sulphuric acid to phosphoric acid is greater than 5 to 3, and the amount of addition is between 0.3 and 5 per cent by weight of the electrolyte. Specification 526,854 is referred to.
