Abstract

558,727. Electro-polishing nickel. BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE. Jan. 13, 1943, No. 649. Convention date, April 24, 1942. [Class 41] Nickel is polished by being made the anode in a bath consisting of an aqueous solution of from 5 to 85 per cent by weight each of sulphuric and orthophosphoric acids, the combined acid content being between 50 and 90 per cent by weight of the electrolyte, an amount of from .5 to 2.6 per cent of trivalent aluminium, the effect of which is stated to be to prevent pitting of the surface at the temperature range from (100-210‹ F.) and the current density (from 125-250 ampÞres per square foot of surface) employed, and preferably also from .5 to 1.4 per cent of trivalent chromium.
